A small city of Haryana [Ambala], has taken a big step to stop the use of plastic plates, glass & spoons, Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma, IAS has started the initiative to stop the people from using one time use plastic in public gatherings what so ever , In this initiative the DC of Ambala has guided the Red Cross society members to make a bank and then give the utensils for free and when the event is over then the person may return the utensils. There are at present 600 sets in the bank and 1 set contains a plate, glass and a spoon. Soon another one will be opened in Ambala cantonment and both of the banks will keep 500 sets each and in this process Red Cross a semi Govt. society has started this initiative for the use of public and betterment of them because single use plastic makes a bad and harm full effect on our environment and the people who can not buy such plates for the event they can use these sets for free and for the time the Red Cross society is taking only a copy of Aadhaar Copy and the person then can takes as much as he wants to take.
Till now 35 to 40 families have used this facility from their office in Ambala city [court road] the whole team of Red Cross is working to help people for issuing the utensils and very soon another bank in Ambala Cantt will be inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar who previously Inaugurated the Bank in Ambala City.
Vijaya Luxmi, the secretary of Red Cross Society, Ambala, said: that the set of steel utensils were provided by a private firm under it’s CSR Cross office near [Hathi Khana temple]
To stop the plastic and thermocol use and also improve the sanitation condition of the city Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma has decided to distribute 10 lakh bio-degradable bags to motivate the people of the city to move towards a safe and healthy environment. While the BPL families will get the bags free of cost, counters will be set up in various markets of Ambala where the bags worth rupees 10 will be given for rupees 5 only for the benefit of the public.
