DRDO is Developing “Pranash Missile”

DRDO announced for the first time at DefExpo 2020 that India is developing a new tactical ballistic  missile which has the capability of striking targets at a range of 200km. Such types of missiles are said to be close range ballistic missiles. This missile is an advanced form of Prahaar missile which has 150km strike range. These tactical missiles has less than 300 km range and the major benefits are mobility, survivability and quick deployment, it also performs a flexible role in the war kind situations such as targeting the enemy facilities, assembly areas, artillery and other targets behind the front lines and the best part is they required any approval of Strategic Forces Command. Unlike in case of Agni missiles

Now the main question is why DRDO is Developing a new missile, when India already has plenty of missiles.

The Prahar missile

Major reason can be the number one Army needs for a 200 Km Strike range missile, number two India is looking for exporting the missile to friendly nations as India is targeting to have 35000 crore defense based exports  . The range of 200 km has its own benefit as the restricted range set by the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) is above 300 Km.
